The ED75 type is an AC electric locomotive that appeared in 1963. The early models, from No. 3 to No. 49, are characterized by their rounded skirts on the bottom of the car body without a awning. They were mainly deployed at the Uchigo and Morioka depots, and were used to pull slow trains and freight trains on the Tohoku Main Line and Joban Line, and the ED75 type at Morioka depot was also used as a helper for crossing the difficult Jusanbongi Pass between Hachinohe and Morioka. When they were introduced, they were equipped with defrosters, but the cars at Morioka depot were replaced with heated glass early on and removed.
